Finally I tried out skiing at Sierra Nevada on 3 Dec 2018 and it was very successful.
Alarm set at 6am; showered, breakfasted and out by 6.45am. The drive up to the resort was in the dark and the was very little traffic until I reached the Granada ring road. Possibly next time leave 15 mins earlier and then can easily be up on the slopes skiing by 9am?
I inadvertently drove to the upper resort but was easily able to descent through the town to the lower resort and park on the road (check need to pay next time – or use one of the car parks).

I had booked a two hour lesson with the British Ski Centre which is located in the Intersport Riosport hire shop right next to the Al Andalus ski lift in Plaza Amdalucia (this is the lower square down some steps from where I parked – note: there is another larger Intersport Riosport shop up there near the Borreguilles lift).
The ski pass ticket office is close by in the lower square – all very convenient.
The two hour lesson was more of a guided tour (at my request) and was with Jonathan who owns the ski school. Definitely worth doing again to get oriented.
For the drive home it is worth having a pair of shorts. The scenery on the drive back is spectacular.
